Kevin Boylan was a 1977 graduate of Garces Memorial.  He was a hardworking,  faith-filled man who attended Mass almost daily. And his closest life-long friends were the one’s he made during his time at Garces. Kevin died after a tragic car accident leaving behind his wife Barbara and two children, Jimmy and Matt. Kevin’s wife Barbara, who is a also an alumnus from the class of 1983, wanted to honor Kevin’s memory by establishing a scholarship to assist Garces students who needed help with their tuition. Barbara established parameters that give preference to a young man, entering his senior or a junior year at Garces, who is a practicing Catholic, and has a love of the outdoors or holds down a job. The scholarship was established in 1999 and has been awarded every year since 2000.

Kevin’s wife, Barbara Haller Boylan Schager passed away in 2010 after a two year valiant fight against pancreatic cancer. Barbara knew the value of a Garces education and her closest friends, along with all of her siblings and her mother, were active members of the Garces community. One of her wishes was to establish a scholarship in her memory that was similar to Kevin’s.  The Barbara Haller Boylan Schager Memorial Scholarship was established in 2010 through memorial gifts and is awarded to a female who is either entering her junior or senior year at Garces, is a practicing Catholic, and holds down a job outside of school. It was important to Barbara that both scholarships were available to students who may have encountered financial difficulties but wanted to complete their Garces education. The scholarship was established in 2010 and has been awarded every year since 2011.

Between the two scholarships, they have helped 29 students to realize their dream of a Garces education.

Both the Kevin Boylan Memorial Scholarship and the Barbara Haller Boylan Schager Memorial Scholarship continue to grow as family members and dear friends continue to make contributions.
